Raj's Corner has kept a curry counter running on Beaumont Street, Hamilton since 1998. Twenty two curries sit behind the glass every day and around twenty more are made to order, from $10.90.
Raj's Corner is at 116 Beaumont Street, Hamilton. The board carries twenty two curries on display with around twenty more cooked to order, mild through to hot, with vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free options marked on every line. Eat in the dining room, order ahead for pick up, or have it delivered.
Raj's Corner started as a counter rather than a restaurant. Curries sat in trays behind the glass, breads came out of the tandoor, the queue moved fast and dinner went home in a paper bag. The dining room came later, in 2011, but the counter is still how most of Hamilton orders.
Kuldip Sangha cooked for the room in front of him. Someone would ask for a dish from home, and if he could cook it well he put it on the board. That is how the count got to twenty two on display with around twenty more made to order, everything from a mild Vegetables Korma to a Beef Vindaloo.
Nothing arrives frozen and nothing is cooked with MSG. Samosa pastry, naan dough, dips and sauces are made on site every day, and the spices come from Raj's Spice and Groceries, the Indian grocery next door on Beaumont Street.
